William Wayne Workman, 89, of Maryville, formerly of Kansas City, went to be with his Savior on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Brookdale Browns Creek.
Wayne was born on January 28, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri to Cecil Gilbert and Alice Louise (Leavitt) Workman. He graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City and joined the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Pearl Inez Wilcox on June 9, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri at her home. Wayne worked for Southwestern Bell (later as AT&T) for over thirty years before retiring. Following retirement, he started his own company working as a consultant for other telecommunication companies.
Family was everything to Wayne. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many happy moments with his family – especially camping, hiking, bowling, and attending football games, musical events, piano recitals, and Nascar races. Wayne enjoyed traveling the world with his true love and best friend, Inez, and riding his motorcycle well into his 80’s. He was a fix-it-yourself guy and an all-around handyman who loved to learn and kept his mind and hands busy long after retirement. He was known by many as “Mr. Wonderful” given his exceptionally positive attitude, tremendous work ethic, and desire to make every person he encountered feel valued and special.
Wayne loved the Lord and did everything in his life – both personally and professionally – to bring glory to God. He liked attending St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Conway, Arkansas and Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife Inez. He later attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Maryville, Tennessee where he was reconfirmed in his faith. More recently, Wayne attended Fairview United Methodist Church in Maryville, Tennessee. Wayne had a very personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is now able to be with his Savior face-to-face.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Inez; daughter, Margaret Louise Workman; brother, Cecil Gilbert “Bud” Workman Jr. and sister, Shirley Mae Workman. He is survived by his daughters, Karen Harris and her husband Andrew of Maryville, TN and Pamela Rajic and her husband Slobodan of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Christopher Harris and wife Abby of Spring, TX, David Harris and wife Magda of Melbourne, Australia, Alexandra Rajic of Knoxville, TN, and Nicholas Rajic of Cookeville, TN; great grandchildren, Elise Harris, Ellery Harris, Riley Harris, and Layla Harris; and many nieces and nephews.
