William L. Garland, age 95, of Maryville, died Monday, August 1, 2016 at the family home. Mr. Garland was born Sept. 1, 1920 in Townsend and lived in Cades Cove until the National Park was formed. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving honorably in World War II. William worked as a linesman for TVA until 1961, when his health forced his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, working in his shop, and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jeanne Garland; brothers, Herman, Jake, and John Garland; sisters, Lorene McGill and Imogene Hyde; son, Steven Garland. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Garland; sons, Richard (Connie) Garland of Mesa, AZ, David (Lisa) Garland of Gilbert, AZ; step-sons, Bud (Marcia) Wilson of Walland, John (Cindy) Wilson, James (Tammy) Wilson all of Maryville; step-daughters, Vickie (Jimmy) McGill, Paula McCarter, all of Maryville; Yolanda Richardson of Madisonville; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dude (Irene) Garland, Fred Garland, all of Maryville. Funeral Ceremony will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, August 6, 2016 in the Dotson Wildwood Chapel with the Rev. Tim Garland, officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery.
