Rita Lynn Handley, age 64, of Maryville, died Saturday, February 15, 2025, at home.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Rita had an adventurous spirit and a bold personality. She was a die-hard University of Tennessee fan, cheering on the Vols with unwavering dedication. Her love for tie-dye, lions, miniature gnomes, and trolls reflected her unique personality and sense of individuality.
Rita was outspoken and had a gruff exterior, but those who knew her understood she was a "marshmallow" on the inside — deeply caring and kind-hearted. She embraced life’s adventures, whether traveling or making everyday moments special. Her greatest love was for her family, including her four beloved dogs.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Handley; daughter, Alyssa Dutton; parents, Ollie and Rowena Hodge; and sister, Pat Walton.
Rita is survived by her son, Alan Handley (Leslie); daughter, Samantha Allen; grandchildren, Skyla, Sierra, Kylie, Junior, Michael, and Gabi; and sisters, Angie Cardwell (Mike), Gail Murphy (Bob), and Debbie Gribble.
A private family viewing and gathering will be held, followed by cremation. Memorial donations may be made to the family. Cremation Done ProperlyTM under the care of Dotson Funeral Home & Cremation, Wildwood (865-984-5959). Online Book of Memories: DotsonFuneralHome.com.
