Richard (Rik) Lynn Penney, age 66, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.
We are sorry to say, but Smoky Mountain Knife Works lost a long-time valued customer that day. Heaven gained an angel. Rik was a man of his own tune. His love of music was unparalleled and he was often heard singing a montage of hit records from the 60's to present day. Those that knew him best, would say he was a great father, impeccable family man, walking jukebox, pool shark, adventurous cook, lover of animals, and a collector of knives and all things that go boom. Mostly, he was unforgettable. We will miss his crazy sense of humor, his ability to lighten even the darkest room and make a joke out of any situation, just to ease the tension. To further understand the man that he was, while he was in the hospital, he was singing and tapping his feet to "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry and joking with the doctors about having a beer.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Penney.
He is survived by his mother Milly Penney; son, Trevallon (Teressa) Penney of Seymour TN, daughters Sylver (German) Gonzalez-Rivas of Miami Fl, Cody Penney of Pigeon Forge TN; grandchildren, Isaiah Penney, Isabella Penney, and Ilexis Penney; sister, Debra Penney Andriacchi of Temecula CA, niece Analisa (Matthew) Flaherty of MURRIETA CA, and their daughters Leah and Kalynn.
