Michael Hugh Thomson, age 71, of Paeonian Springs, VA, formerly of Maryville, died Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Army. Mr. Thomson served for 32 years in the U.S. Military as a recruiter and instructor, where he gave wisdom and guidance to countless young men. After retirement, he worked in logistics in the trucking industry. He also ran for State Representative while living in Alabama. Michael was an accomplished writer, penning a book, "The Publisher." He also wrote several articles and short stories on the Partial Observer website. He enjoyed walks in the woods and spending summers in his cabin in the Allegheny Forest in NW Pennsylvania. His favorite city was Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Margaret Thomson Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Carrell; beloved pet Anastasia "Stacey"; cousin, Don White Walker; a brother, sisters, 4 children, and extended family and friends.
