Melissa Anne Adams, better known as Missy, 60, of Maryville passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 after a recently diagnosed chronic illness. She was a woman of faith and great spirituality. Although she was born in Columbia, Tennessee, her hometown was Maryville where she lived many years as a child, teen and as an adult. She attended the University of Tennessee, earning both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Social Work. Between degrees, Missy moved to Portland, Maine and worked a variety of jobs. She made several great friends who stayed in touch over the years. She used her social work skills as well in the greater Knoxville area to serve people in need, both as an employee and as a volunteer. Missy often helped the most vulnerable, many of whom were overlooked by others. Missy loved cheering on the Volunteer athletic teams, especially the Lady Vols. Missy intentionally cared for those in her realm: family, friends and folks in need. She had a unique gift to connect in a nonjudgmental way with others. Her smile and laugh brightened her environment. These qualities allowed people of all ages and circumstances to count her as a dear friend.
Missy is preceded in death by Leonard and Betty Adams, her parents:Cliff Adams, her brother; and Amber Adams, her daughter.
Surviving family members includebeloved son Gabriel Adams, cherished daughter Kelsi Malone, and precious grandson Axavier Adams as well as extended family in Tellico Plains and the Tri Cities. Missy also had many friends she considered to be family.
