Kenneth Wayne Veal, age 81, of Maryville, died Friday, November 1, 2024 at the family home.
Ken's heart and soul was vested in youth work. He was the director for several years of Camp Wowona, a seventh day Adventist youth camp located in the Yosemite National Park. During his time as director, he was responsible for expanding the program to include camp offerings that were only floating industry ideas, such as specialized camps for the blind, special needs and inner city youth. His experience propelled him into working with other conferences in creating summer camp programs. Ken created and lead the first youth missionary group to the Grand Turks Islands in the early 1970s, paving the way for continued youth ministry beyond borders.
Ken's largest accomplishments in his personal life was his long marriage of 59 years to his lovely wife June; children Timothy Veal (Dawn), Thomas Veal (Shelly), Tammy Lawson; grandchildren, Alexis Lawson, Mercedes Lawson-Barry, Jade Veal, Raeden Veal, Emily Veal, Nicholas Veal; great grandchildren, Layla Rae & Huxley Barry.
Celebration of Life will be 2:30 PM Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Maryville Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2921 Sevierville Road, Maryville, with Pastor Ed Santana officiating. Interment will follow in Holston College Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon Saturday at Dotson Funeral Home, 4838 Wildwood Road, Wildwood.
