Freida Carol Grothjahn, age 78 of Maryville, faithfully served the Lord all her life. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday April 1, 2026, at her home in the arms of her primary caregiver and husband of 45 years, Harry C. Grothjahn.
Freida was born March 16, 1948, to Cecil and Ruth Potter. She grew up with her five siblings in a cozy cottage in rural Blount County and attended Oak View Baptist in Walland where her parents were charter members.
Freida was the owner and operator of “His Kids Christian Learning Center”. It was located in Eagleton Village, and for over a decade she worked to cultivate the minds of thousands of preschoolers from across the County ensuring their success for kindergarten and teaching them the love of Christ.
Freida was known for her many talents. She was an artist, song writer, author, illustrator, gardener, and well known as a “Jack of all trades”. Above all her many talents, her love for her family was what she was most passionate about. She wanted everyone to know how much she loved them and how much Jesus loved them more. She will be greatly missed by so many, but we are celebrating that she is free from pain and suffering in Heaven now.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.C. Hatcher; parents, Cecil and Ruth Potter; brother, Eddie Potter; infant sister, Charlotte.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Harry Grothjahn; son, John Hatcher(Margaret); daughter, Christi Barnes (Brian); grandchildren, Cory Barnes(Mackenzie), Braden Barnes; brothers, Charles Potter(Philana), Mike Potter; sisters, Janice Valentine, Kay West (Tedd).
After a private family viewing/gathering, Mrs. Grothjahn was cremated. Graveside Ceremony will be 2 PM Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Oak View Cemetery. A memorial ceremony and reception will folllow inside the church. Cremation Done ProperlyTM under the care of Dotson Funeral Home & Cremation, Wildwood.
