Cartha Charlton Wills, age 104, of Maryville, died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.
She was an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church, Maryville. She was a native of Baltimore, Maryland, having retired to Maryville 30 years ago with her husband of 74 years, Reese Wills Sr. She especially enjoyed the Friends group and Knit Wilts at Broadway. She was an active church member throughout her life, once serving as Moderator of her local churches' Women's Association. Living at Asbury Place for 30 years, she enjoyed participating in the Craft Group, Chapel services, fund-raising and volunteering in the health care center, once receiving the Volunteer of The Year award. While living in Denver, she was active in Eastern Star and served as President for one term. And she enjoyed being the supervisor of a fine china and silver department of a major department store.
She was also a talented artist who took art classes in Denver, Slidell, LA and Maryland. She was President of the Slidell and Maryland Art Leagues. Her paintings received many first-place awards at various art shows, at which she sold one to the Mayor of Slidell. She also blessed many with her knitted
and crocheted pieces as well as her many custom-made garments.She was also an active member of the local Chapter 42 clock cub.
Throughout her life, her family was the main focus. She promoted many extended family gatherings as she raised her four children in Baltimore and Denver, always with a dog included. During the Covid pandemic shut down, confined to her room at Asbury, her faithful Chihuahua, Tootsie, was a great companion to her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Reese Wills Sr; daughter Elizabeth Ann Griffith; parents, Charles and Ada Elizabeth Charlton; brother, Charles
William Charlton. Survivors include her son Reese Wills Jr. {Eleanor}, son Charles Wills {Debbie}, daughter Debi McDermott {Mac}; 9 grandchildren; Karen Velez, Bill Griffith Jr., John Wills, Rodger Wills, Debi Lynn Kaas, Michelle Morrison, Heath Kramer and Brandi Watkins; 15 great grandchildren 5 great, great grandchildren and close friend Vickie Brooks. The family wishes to thank South High Senior Living for the wonderful care she received the last few months of her life and also to thank Dotson Funeral Home staff for their kind help. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Memorial Service, 11:00 am Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Broadway United Methodist Church, 309 E Broadway Ave, Maryville, with the Rev. Ron Fisher officiating. Contributions in her memory may be given to Broadway United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.
