Robert K. ‘Bob’ Hanye, age 76, of Maryville, passed Thursday, December 7, 2023 at UT Medical Center surrounded by family.
Bob was a devoted Panther since attending college at the University of Pittsburgh, where he first met the love of his life, Sue. The young couple married shortly thereafter and made a life and family together for 54 years. His career was dedicated to serving visually impaired and disabled people, including serving as the CEO of the Association for Vision Rehabilitation and Employment in Binghamton, NY. He also was a member of the Board of Education in Sparta, NJ and recently served as chair of the Blount County Democratic Party. Those who worked with him knew him as a transformational leader, leaving organizations better than he found them. Bob was happiest spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved music, dancing, hiking and gardening, and during his retirement he volunteered weekly with Project Hope, (projecthopealcoa.org).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Sally Hanye.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sue Hanye; son, Josh Hanye (Emily); daughter, Jessica Offermann (Bill); grandchildren, Jacob & Otto Offermann, Elena & Benji McGinnis; brother, Ken Hanye; brother-in-law, John Boruch; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Wojcicki.
