Adrian C. Sutherland, age 82, of Maryville, formerly of Mount Gilead, OH, passed away peacefully Friday, June 12, 2020, in the comfort of his daughters home.
He was born on November 29, 1937, in Dickenson County, VA, to the late William D. and Ailcy “Bertie” (Fuller) Sutherland.
After leaving school, Adrian began working in the coal mines of Virginia. When he moved to Ohio he enjoyed working as a baker in local bakeries. Adrian also dedicated 21 years to working for Gruman building buses of which he retired from.
On August 8th, 1958, Adrian married the love of his life, the late Ann G. Hamon, just outside of Haysi, VA. This happened to be on Ann’s 19th birthday.
With a love for the outdoors, Adrian and Ann loved to camp together at their favorite spot in Warsaw, OH. He also enjoyed visiting any watering hole he could to cast a few reels and do a little fishing. Adrian and Ann both enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and often could be found dancing to the tune of his brother’s band.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; parents: William and Bertie; brothers: Maynard, Clayton, Gale, Omar, Roger, and Glenn; and sisters: Lenis Thomas, Merle Fletcher, and Tynafae Sutherland.
Left to cherish his memory includes his daughter, Rhonda (Allen Gay) Sutherland-Gay of Maryville; grandchildren: Jessica (Shane) Ford of Maryville, and Jeremy Hershner of Alcoa; great grandchildren: Tristin, Jaxon, and Riley Ford, Hunter and Talyn Hershner; sisters: Nine (Everett) Rice of Newport News, VA and Carol (Victor) Breeding of Davenport, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
